PARKSIDE LEADERSHIP

Parkside’s leaders hail from a diverse background of many different denominations and generations. We’re guided by an ordained minister, plus elected elders and elected deacons. Nothing too hierarchal here, but nothing loosey-goosey either.

Rev. Colin Kerr

Colin Kerr (M.Div) is the founding pastor of Parkside Church. Prior to imagining Parkside, he spent eight years assisting historic congregations with church renewal strategies, planting a new multi-campus college ministry at College of Charleston and the Citadel, and received the Baird Prize for Preaching at seminary. Colin has authored four books, of which one is actually worth buying. He has a passion for beach volleyball, whiskey, and budget travel. Colin is grateful every day to be married to his partner in love, life, and ministry, Erin, and is a doting dad to his daughters Arland and Abigail. His fourth and hopefully final book, Faith Hope Love: The Essentials of Christianity for the Curious, Confused, and Skeptical, is available in hardcover and ebook. He can be reached here.

Erin Kerr

Erin (ThM, MAT) is a Charleston native and lover of all things artistic and holds three degrees, including a Masters of Mission and Ministry at the University of Dubuque Theological Seminary. She has spent the past two decades using her music gifts to serve in various churches across the Lowcountry. In 2021, Erin was asked to lead campus ministry for the Charleston Atlantic Presbytery at the College of Charleston (Empowher) and Citadel Military College (Presbyterian Journey). When Erin is not composing, gigging at local shows, or leading coffee shop bible studies, she is proudly raising two beautiful and spirited daughters, Abigail and Arland. She’s married to the best man she knows and who also happens to be the love of her life, Colin. She can be reached here.

Lexton Heydrick

Lexton is Lowcountry born-and-raised, he’s been a member of Parkside staff since 2023 starting out as the lead for lower elementary classroom. He currently enrolled in courses to get a bachelor’s degree in chaplaincy and further his future in religious studies. Lexton loves his dog, sports, and helping people. When he is not at Parkside, Lexton is a prep cook at the Lost Dog Cafe. Lexton is a certified catechist with the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd.

Mikayla Harper

Mikayla Harper is a Mother, licensed therapist, and “professional kid person”.  After serving in various youth ministry volunteer rolls for more than a decade, being called to serve Parkside in this way felt natural. As someone who was a youth group kid in the early 2000s, Mikayla understands the importance of creating a safe inclusive place for teens to explore faith, build community, engage in meaningful service, and be reminded of the always unconditional love of Christ.  She is married to her favorite person, Dan, who ironically she met in middle school here in Charleston. They have two wonderfully wild children, Carrson and Benji. Being the “Queen of the Harper House” is her dream come true and biggest answered prayer. She is an avid reader, lover of music, amateur gardener, and lover of all things outside.

Rev. Layton Williams Berkes

Rev. Layton E. Williams is a writer, an ordained PC(USA) minister, and the managing editor of Presbyterians Today. She is the author of Holy Disunity: How What Separates Us Can Save Us. Layton earned her M. Div from Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary in Austin, TX and her B.A. in English from the University of Georgia. Her writing revolves around creative fiction and poetry, as well as nonfiction that focuses on the intersection of faith, justice, politics, and culture with a particular emphasis on sexuality and gender. Layton has an awesome husband, Billy, and two adorable daughters. She can be reached here.

Rev. Sarah Ago

Sarah is a minister, writer, speaker, nonprofit leader, and mother of two sons. She was ordained in 2011 in the Evangelical Covenant Church and served three churches in a variety of roles over seventeen-years of church ministry. Sarah has a B.S. degree in Biblical Studies from Moody Bible Institute and an M.A. degree in Family Life Education through Fuller Theological Seminary. She serves on the boards of the Del Camino Connection and Pilgrims of Ibillin. She is a founding member and the Minister to the Board of a nonprofit called SEARCH (SE Asia Rescue Coalition and Haven), which walks alongside and raises support for a safe house for survivors of exploitation and trafficking. Her writing has appeared in Children’s Ministry Magazine, Mutuality magazine, Africanus Journal, the Mutuality/CBE International blog, and the blog Jesus Creed. She can be reached here.

Kaely Meryanos

Originally from Georgia and a PK (pastor’s kid), Kaely has since lived in some of the most unique places, from the vibrant cultures of Guatemala and Uruguay to the cold, scenic landscapes of Maine. Her love for travel and experiencing diverse environments has shaped her approach to hospitality, giving her a broad perspective and a knack for creating unique, memorable experiences. In 2022, Kaely and her husband settled in Charleston, where she embraced her passion for organizing and bringing people together. Kaely considers herself blessed to be part of such an inspiring and supportive community at Parkside, where she continues to bring creativity, warmth, and fun to every gathering she plans. She can be reached here.

Keith Hartman

Keith has been a musician and audio engineer for well over two decades. Beside the work he does running sound each Sunday service, he is a professional recording, mixing and mastering engineer at his own music studio, Silver Seas Mastering. Keith is formerly the electric guitarist for the orchestral Christian rock band The Joy Eternal and has released four of his own solo albums, including an original children’s album. He still enjoys skateboarding, comic books, and Star Trek. It’s like nothing has ever changed. Keith and his wife Jen have two children, George and Dorothy, who have inherited their mom’s amazingness and their dad’s cool factor. He can be reached here.

Brad Bistodeau

Be patient! He’s writing his bio, okay?

Sister Carol Burk

Sister Carol is a consecrated Deacon in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and a 39-year member of the Deaconess Community of the ELCA. She is a “grammar queen,” avid t-shirt collector, and computer geek. She will talk to anyone, any time about Dietrich Bonhoeffer, C. S. Lewis, the “Outlander” books and TV series, and her nephews, niece, great nephew and great niece. Ask her at your own risk. She can be reached here.

Beth Peebles

Beth is from a small town in western Kentucky before finding herself at the College of Charleston pursuing marine biology (not a lot of that in Kentucky!). She graduated in 2025, and during her college career discovered Parkside Church through Erin’s EmpowHer campus ministry. Beth loves nature (especially mud!), reading (ask her about what she’s currently re-reading), and hanging with her two cats and roommate downtown. When she’s not at Parkside, you find her at Magnolia Plantation in the wetlands or at any of the bluegrass concerts in town (if you need band recommendations, she has them).

thinking about coming sunday?

We know visiting a new church can be intimidating. We’ll do our best not to be too awkward (a little awkwardness can be cute though), but we’d also like to make it smoother for you.
